How we compare

The rules behind every page and every Finder result, in plain words.

One cruise, several sellers

We group listings by the real cruise behind them: the same boat, operator, departure point and kind of cruise. Viator, Tiqets and the operator may each sell that cruise. Each seller's departure times, prices, ticket conditions and cancellation terms stay its own and are never mixed with another seller's. If two listings might not be the same cruise, we keep them apart rather than merge them.

The order of results

Results are ordered by how many of your preferences a cruise meets, then by whether a seller confirmed a departure time in your chosen part of the day, then by the lowest current price, then by name. Commission is never part of the order, and we don't use scores.

Freshness

Every seller time and price says when it was checked. After a while the label changes to "Last checked" with the date and time. When a check is too old we hide that seller's times and availability and keep only its price with its date, so an old price can't win "Lowest price". If we couldn't reach a seller, we say so ("We couldn't check Tiqets"); a failed check never means that a cruise has no tickets.

Operators' own prices

We read operators' prices on their own sites and show the date we read each one. An operator's price takes part in "Lowest price" only while it is under 7 days old. Between 8 and 14 days it is shown with its date but not compared, and after that it appears only in dated reference tables, then not at all. An operator's price never tells you whether a sailing has tickets left.

Tickets without a fixed time

Some tickets have no departure time: a dated ticket, a ticket with no set date, or a pass. We say only what each seller states and show each seller's conditions on its own row. Check how to use a ticket on the seller's page before you go.

What we don't know

When an operator doesn't say something, such as whether its commentary is live or recorded, we say it is not confirmed rather than guess. Sellers' claims are kept as theirs and never replace the operator's own description.

Ratings

Star ratings belong to the seller that shows them, and we name it. Viator's figures can include Tripadvisor reviews, and we say so. They are not our rating of the operator.

What we never claim

We never show how many seats are left or warnings that seats are running out, and we never present our data as up to the minute. It is what the sellers returned when we checked, with that time shown.

Editorial advice

Our opinions appear only in boxes labelled "Editorial advice". They are based on the facts on the page and never change the order of results or sellers.

We may earn a commission if you book through an affiliate link. This does not change the price shown to you by the seller.
